Op Shop

A Place to snag a bargain!

Youth Foundation

The Don Bosco Brunswick Youth Foundation Inc. Opportunity Shop opened for business on 25 June 2001 and has prooven to be very popular with customers who appreciate friendly service and a worthwhile cause. It is located at 368 Sydney Road, Brunswick, in large premises able to accommodate a wide variety of goods – clothing, bric-a-brac, books and furniture.

The objectives in establishing an Opportunity Shop were twofold: to provide a source of income to help cover some of the running costs of the Don Bosco Youth Centre and Hostel and to provide support for the Salesian Mission in the Pacific.

Anyone wishing to donate saleable goods can deliver them personally to our shop, or request a pick-up. We have our own van to enable free pick-up and to deliver goods at a moderate fee to assist good-willed people and also enhance the value of bargains.

Management

The shop is managed daily by a rostered group of Foundation Directors. There are more than 40 regular volunteers (including disabled volunteers) who give great service in tasks such as sorting, transporting furniture, cleaning and preparing goods for sale, pricing goods, stocking shelves and serving the public. Among these volunteers are a number of young people who are seeking employment and who find the skills acquired through work experience at the shop useful.

The Directors of the Foundation are very pleased that the Opportunity Shop is an extension of the Don Bosco Brunswick Youth Centre in providing young people an opportunity to share in this community work. Without these volunteers the shop could not operate, and we thank them most sincerely for their dedicated service.
